mac os 9.2.1 has been available for download for almost a week now. there are a number of new features, including a built-in cd burner. by simply inserting a blank cd-rw into your burner, the mac will ask if you would like to format the cd and then files can be burned onto it. one of the great features is that you can burn the cd and continue to work in other apps (one big limitation of toast). as for os 9.2.1 troubleshooting, macfixit has a page set up. those considering an update to 9.2.1 should take a look at the page prior to updating.

| i dont like disk burrner(2:22pm est fri aug 31 2001) i dont really like the built in cd burner. toast is much more powerfull and i like the interface. toast 5.0 titanium well run in the backgound an alow you to work with other applications. this may not work as well on older mac's that are ram hungry or if you are useing a usb cd-rw. when have a rev-a imac with a 466 g3 /192ram /os 9.2/ que 4x usb cd-rw. i could only burn reliably at 2x when running toast in the backgound. i could burn 4x if i used a slim extention set, unplugged other usb devices, and did not try to run other apps. my new 867 quicksilver can burn at 12x with no problems at all using toast 5.0, and i can edit photos with photo shope, work with vertual pc, check my mail, surf the web, and use a word prossesor at the same time. – by evildead |

| disk burner(10:48pm est tue sep 04 2001) disk burner has been available since 9.1. 9.2.1 just supports more burners and adds other improvements. tost is better, though. you can't burn a bootable cd using apple's disk burner. still, you can't beat the price. – by dave |
How To Update Mac OS 9 to 9.2.2 by Richard Vincenti Jr 1 Comment Okay, this may sound simple enough but if you don’t have the updates on disc somewhere then it can be next to impossible to find the update files for Mac OS 9. Mac OS 9 9.0. Mac OS 9.x, based on Mac OS 8 was the final product based on the classic MacOS architecture. Like previous version, it lacks true protected memory or pre-emptive multitasking. MacOS 9 was abandoned in favor of of the Unix-ish NextStep/Openstep based Mac OS X. Updates to Mac OS 9 include 9.0.4, 9.1, 9.2.1, and 9.2.2. Mac OS 9.0.4 was a collection of bug fixes primarily relating to USB and FireWire support. Mac OS 9.1 included integrated CD burning support in the Macintosh Finder and added a new Window menu in the Finder for switching between open windows. Mac OS 9.2 increased performance noticeably. | 9.2 cd fix(11:46pm est sat jun 25 2005) a lot of the problems you guys are having with the burner in 9.2.2 is that if you put in media that is rated faster than the drive can burn, the drive will crash. there is no known fix for this for data cd burning because cd burner won't let you go turn down the speed. in itunes for music cd's you can fix it by turning the burn speed from “as fast as possible” or whatever it says, to the 4x or 2x speed. – by ad |

| no sound on my g3 imac dv os 9.2(4:26pm est mon feb 13 2006) i don't know what happened to the sound on my g3 imac dv indigo running os 9.2.2 – i checked system preference under sound and mute was not checked, i tried trashing the sound preference file in the system folder and still no sound at all from the headphones or the speakers, so i am out of ideas. i checked the headphone jack itself, looks fine….i tried putting in a headphone, but don't get any sound out of the headphones either. i even rebuilt the desktop and zapped the pram using techtool. any suggestions? i recently bought this computer from a gentleman who claimed the sound worked fine for him, but he had done a wipe of the hard disk and did a clean install to 9.2.2 —- i borrowed a friend's “griffin technology imic2 usb audio interface” and got sound out from that to some speakers, but still nothing from the mac's headphones or the speakers. i'm at a loss! thanks for any help! – by doug |

| fix for error message(1:01pm est thu jun 29 2006) i was getting the medium error message for a while – i think it is because on my desktop i had some “cds” mounted – you know the ones that toast or itunes creates when a blank cd is inserted, but nothing is done with it – and it remains after the cd was ejected. i had two of these on my desktop, as well as a mounted version of the dvd i was trying to burn. once i ejected them all, everything worked. – by isabelle |
